Therapeutic Photography
Creatively exploring themes in our lives using a medium such as photography can offer us many layers of learning, understanding and integration.
-Mindfulness, an awareness of our surroundings that’s grounding and offers glimmers of beauty in the banal
-Engaging a state of “flow” that activates the para-sympathetic nervous system for deep sense of calm
-Developing a practical tool that offers us something to reach for in tough times
-Opportunities to reflect on ourselves, our relationships to others and to the world around us in a new way.
-Storytelling; tell your story, look into your history and reconnect with parts of you that may have been forgotten using family photos.
No professional equipment needed, just any device that takes a photo.
A wonderful, side by side therapy that offers an alternative to face to face talk therapy.
Themes that benefit from this kind of exploration include “the self” and relationship to oneself, Childhood trauma, existential themes such as grief, death, life, meaning and purpose, cultural, societal and environmental themes such as poverty and climate change.
